What Is AI?
AI enables us to build amazing software that can improve health care, enable people to overcome physical disadvantages, empower smart infrastructure, create incredible entertainment experiences, and even save the planet! (Microsoft)
Simply put, AI is software that imitates human behaviors and capabilities. Key workloads include:
Machine learning - This is often the foundation for an AI system, and is the way we "teach" a computer model to make predictions and draw conclusions from data.
Computer vision - Capabilities within AI to interpret the world visually through cameras, video, and images.
Natural language processing - Capabilities within AI for a computer to interpret written or spoken language, and respond in kind.
Document intelligence - Capabilities within AI that deal with managing, processing, and using high volumes of data found in forms and documents.
Knowledge mining - Capabilities within AI to extract information from large volumes of often unstructured data to create a searchable knowledge store.
Generative AI - Capabilities within AI that create original content in a variety of formats including natural language, image, code, and more.
Islamic Perspection, AI Only a Small Tools
The dimension Islamic its more grate thas only this technology. In Islam have two dimension phisic and religious. Example in Islam in the religious dimension has "ruh". So, AI is onlye a small tools. AI is not that great. Allah is the great only. Allah is the one who has the knowledge given to humans, to know the greatness of their God.
And they ask you about spirits. Say: "The Spirit is part of the affairs of my Lord, and you have not been given knowledge except a little." Quran Isra chapter 17: verse number 85
Artificial Islamics Intelegence
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has ushered humanity into a new era of unprecedented technological revolution. In this context, how should Muslims respond to this profound change? Can Islamic teachings that have endured for more than a thousand years still provide guidance in addressing ethical challenges in the digital age?
As an academic who has spent many years researching the relationship between Islamic ethics and technological advancement, I believe that we are in a critical phase that demands an adjustment in the way we view the relationship between spirituality and technological innovation. Is there a possibility of finding common ground between traditional Islamic teachings and the ever-evolving technological advancements?
Through this paper, I would like to introduce a new concept that I call the “Techno-Spiritual Paradigm.” How can this paradigm bridge classical Islamic values with the dynamics of the digital world? And more importantly, can this approach help Muslims not only adapt but also thrive in the AI era?
The Techno-Spiritual Paradigm is based on the belief that technology, especially AI, is not something separate from Islamic spirituality, but rather a manifestation of intelligence bestowed by Allah upon humans as caliphs on earth. In the Qur'an, Allah says: _"He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, all (as grace) from Him"_ (Al-Jasiyah: 13). This verse, known as the concept of 'taskhir,' can be interpreted as a divine mandate for humans to utilize their resources and intellect for the welfare of the people.
With this understanding, the development of AI can be seen as a form of worship, as long as it is carried out with the right intentions and in accordance with Islamic principles. However, we must also realize that technology has the potential to be misused so that it risks conflicting with humanitarian and Islamic values. Therefore, there needs to be a strong ethical framework to direct the development and implementation of AI so that it remains on the right track.
The Urgency of the Techno-Spiritual Paradigm
As a Muslim thinker who has long observed the development of technology and its impact on the community, I argue that the implementation of the Techno-Spiritual Paradigm is not just an option, but an urgent need. We are at a historical crossroads where failure to adapt to the AI era could threaten the relevance of Islam in the future.
A very important first step is reform in Islamic education. Imagine a generation of Muslims who not only understand the verses of the Qur'an, but also have expertise in programming and are able to analyze the ethical implications of the technology they develop. Therefore, I propose a course on "Fiqh of Technology" not just an addition to the curriculum, but as part of a revolution in the way we understand the relationship between sharia and innovation.
However, education alone is not enough. We need a collective ijtihad movement that involves not only traditional scholars, but also Muslim technology experts. For too long we have been trapped in a dichotomy between "religious knowledge" and "worldly knowledge." Moreover, ethical standards for AI based on Islamic values must also be developed. Without clear guidance, Muslims risk becoming passive users of technology that could be contrary to Islamic principles. Islamic organizations must be more proactive in contributing to shaping the direction of global technological development.
In addition, the development of Islamic-based technology startups is also key so that Muslims do not only act as consumers, but also as innovators in the world of technology. Why should we rely on applications from Silicon Valley when we have the potential to create technological solutions rooted in Islamic principles?
On the other hand, public awareness campaigns are essential so that this concept is not just a discourse among academics, but is truly understood and adopted by Muslims at large. The implementation of the Techno-Spiritual Paradigm is not just an option, but a moral obligation for Muslims in the digital era. This is the time for Muslims to revive intellectualism and spirituality to remain relevant in shaping the future of the world. The decision is in our hands, and the time to act is now.
Artificial Islam Intelegence (AII): Achieving Balance
The interaction between Islam and AI calls AII, opens up a dynamic intellectual discussion space in the realm of Islamic thought. The Techno-Spiritual Paradigm that I propose aims to unite technological developments with Islamic values, ensuring that Muslims can play an active and ethical role in the ongoing technological revolution.
For example, AI can be used to develop smart mosques that optimize energy use, organize prayer and education schedules efficiently, and provide online sharia consultation services that can be accessed at any time. In the field of Islamic finance, AI can help create a more sophisticated system in detecting transactions that are not in accordance with Islamic principles. Even in organizing the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, AI can be used to increase efficiency in managing pilgrims and resources, thereby increasing their safety and comfort.
All of this shows that the integration of AI in Muslim life is not just about adopting new technology, but more about how to use it to improve the quality of worship and spiritual life as a whole. Of course, this idea requires further discussion among academics, scholars, and technology practitioners.
However, I believe that with the right approach, Islam can not only adapt to the AI era, but also contribute significantly to building the ethics of future technology.
In closing, let us reflect on the word of Allah in Surah Ar-Rahman chapter verse number 33:
"O jinn and mankind, if you are able to penetrate (cross) the corners of the heavens and the earth, penetrate. You will not be able to penetrate them except with power (from Allah)."
This verse can be interpreted as an encouragement for Muslims to continue to develop science and technology, but remain within the corridor of monotheism and awareness of human limitations before the Creator.
By combining artificial intelligence and spiritual intelligence, God willing, we can build an Islamic civilization that is technologically advanced, but still adheres to spiritual values and becomes a blessing for the entire universe.
